Revolutionary Girl Utena
"If the egg's shell does not break, the chick will die without being born. We are the chick; the egg is the world. If the world's shell does not break, we will die without being born. Break the world's shell! For the sake of revolutionizing the world!"
It's a rainy day when young Utena figures out her parents are never coming home. When she begins to fall into a river out of sadness and despair a noble Prince saves her life, and Utena is so impressed by him that she resolves to become a Prince herself. Years later Utena enrolls at Ohtori Academy to find the Prince who rescued her. She is quickly pulled into a series of sword duels with the Student Council, who are all competing for the "Power to Revolutionize the World." The duels all center around the mysterious Rose Bride, a girl named Anthy who becomes engaged to the victor of the duels. Utena is appauled that Anthy is the trophy of the Student Council's ridiculous game and fights to protect her. As the Student Council's goals become clearer to Utena the secrets of Ohtori Academy become more threatening.
"Ohtori Academy--it's like a beautiful prison isn't it? The students bound by insignificant rules, yet swathed in comfort... A cage fit for a king. It's easy to forget the real world... The one that waits just beyond the prison gates..."
