Ruroni Kenshin

by laufer last modified 2006-04-28 03:07 PM — expired

"I don't want to let all those I killed die in vain."

Ruroni Kenshin is based on actual historical events and people. During the period known as the Bakumatsu the Tokugawa Shogun family's rule is called into question. The people were divided, but not limited to, pro-imperialist national patriots who wanted to modernize from the feudal shogunate to the Meiji government, and the shogunate forces. One man rose above all other imperialists and was known as Hittokiri Battousai. With sword skills unlike anyone had ever seen he was feared by all as he fought to usher in an age where people could live equally and happily. As the Bakumatsu came to a close Hittokiri Battousai disappeared just as quickly as he emerged and became a legend.

Our story begins in the eleventh year of the Meiji era. Kenshin Himura was known as Hittokiri Battousai, but now he lives his life as a ruroni, or a wanderer. Kenshin grieves for the lives he has taken, and vowed after the war never to kill again. Instead of taking an important position in the government like his comrades Kenshin uses his sword to protect the people close to him. He is highly prized by people who want to either hire him for his skills, or kill him for toppling the old power structure. Kenshin is always at odds with himself with his ability to keep his oath. He never again wants to become Hittokiri Battousai, but how can he protect his loved ones against such strong odds without killing?

"Anyone can die, but living takes true courage."
